Cream of tartar, which is actually a by-product of the wine-making process, is an acidic powder that is typically used in baking to stabilise eggs and creams, as well as adding volume and thickness to the final product
McKenzie's Cream of Tartar helps stabilise and give more volume to beaten egg whites (1/8 tsp of Cream of Tartar per 30g egg white).
- An essential ingredient when making meringues and pavlovas.
- Ideal for making non-toxic Play Dough; 2 cups plain flour, 4tbs McKenzie's Cream of Tartar, 2 tbs cooking oil, 1 cup salt, food colouring & 2 cups water. Mix the ingredients in a saucepan, stir over medium heat for 3 - 5 minutes or until the mixture congeals.
Hot Tips
- McKenzie's Cream of Tartar can be used to clean brass and copper cookware.
- To make 1 cup of self-raising flour, combine 1 cup of plain flour, 1 tsp McKenzie's Cream of Tartar and 1/2 tsp McKenzie's Bi-Carb.
